I was going to write a huge long spiel about both of these topics, but it just isn't worth it.
The first thing that is annoying the hell out of me is Belinda Stronach. Rich girl given daddy's corporation (read: a blonde George W Bush) turns Conservative party wannabe leader. Then, decides to go find herself by defecting to a government under investigation for scamming money from government programs. Some conservatives choose to call her a "whore" which they would have for any male. Feminists everywhere turn it into a gender battle. (Read Rex Murphy if you want opinion worth reading) Funny how selfish opportunism in males is regarded as a lack of integrity while for independent females it is empowering their ambitions. How does this do-anything-for-a-job-to-climb-the-evil-patriarchal-ladder mentality do anything for the feminist movement? Some people are on crack. It's Belinda, not Xena. Find a different role model.
The other thing that is a bit confusing is this basically stupid study about racial profiling. The article doesn't even have data to claim that white people are favoured by the police in any way - all they really manage to say is the numbers don't exactly line up with the ethnic makeup of the city. I'm sure the cops in the picture - one of whom is black - are thinking, you know, next year we should stop more Koreans...
Blah.
