Seems that some Americans are quite worked up about all this Terri Schiavo business.
Some people might not know what I'm talking about, so to make a long story short, something messed up happened to her back in 1990 and now she's a vegetable. Her parents want to keep her alive as a doorstop, and her husband just wants to put her out of her misery.
Basically, her parents are selfish assholes for wanting to keep her alive. Is keeping Terry alive to her benefit, or her parents? The answer is, nobody actually wants to live like that. Being a vegetable is like having a career watching concrete dry. Have you ever watched concrete dry? It is a fate worse than death, no human can live being that bored. Seriously, you will go nuts and want to die. Just try it. To live like Terry would be a million times more boring as watching concrete, plus you have no ability to communicate or any control over your body.
So, after a long ass court case, her husband won and it was decided to pull out her feeding tube. I'm extremely pissed off. Why?
NOBODY HAS SHOT HER YET! Why not? Get the fucking gun out! I'll do it for free!
Seriously, why starve this woman to death, wouldn't a bullet be more compassionate? Has everyone fucking cracked? What the hell is wrong with the world?
Dogs are euthanized in more humane ways.
Oh, and Happy Easter.

tim - damn
16 friggin years or whatever it was. MAYBE IF THEY WAITED ANOTHER 16 YEARS SHE MIGHTA SNAPPED OUT OF IT.
sheldong - job creation!
it did keep the lawyers employed!
Parrell - veggie tales
Well I agree with you Dong. Except that if I had a career watching concrete dry, I could totally amuse myself all day. For instance, I could dream up all kinds of schemes to make money off of old people, or do pushups until I puked. Heck I could even practice holding my breath. But Terry can't do any of that, so I'd say her life is even worse than mine would be with such a job. If we sat her in front of a wet foundation and her only task was to observe the drying process, her head would probably just bob back and forth and her eyes would roll all over the place. SHE'D BE HORRIBLE AT WATCHING CONCRETE DRY! Terry, I know you're mental and all, but I'd OWN you in the field of Concrete Observation!
Parrell - and by the way
sweet site ShelDONG
sheldong - that's true
if anybody came along to write their initials in the concrete, wtf would terry do?
Muthafuckin D-R-E - It's about time
Not mean or anything but there was a lot of resources went into keeping the veggie alive. For absolutely no purpose either. Why should somebody be alive when they can't eat, sleep or mow the lawn. If I were that lady I would have killed myself but she was so far gone she couldn't and it took some fuckin judge to finally figure out this poor lady was suffering needlessly for years. I should write a metal song about it. What do you think Parrell??
Dreman - Metal Song
Entombed in the white room
No way to escape this hell
Bodies piled outside the door
No ability to scream
Lost all control of my body
My mind is losing
Losing a war I cannot fight
Gasping for air, body heaving
Relentless vomiting
Death the only solution
Cries for help go ignored
A silent scream drifts a far
No one knows my suffering
Put an end to my life
Parrell - veggie tales pt. II
Sure it sucks that we think this lady should be 'put down' but why not, eh Sheldon? If a scientist hooked her brain up to a machine to read how much activity is actually going on in there, would we find that she is processing info like a bastard and can solve crazy SOB problems? Maybe not. I'm not versed on the workings of the mind in mentally handicapped people, but I would guess we'd see brain functions in her similar to those in slightly over-ripe turnips. Chances are she isn't even aware of her own surroundings, or even her own EXISTENCE... because her brain is so fried, so good luck ever getting HER opinion on the matter.
Dre is that your own song?
sheldong - her opinion
I'm sure if she had something going on in her head we would be able to see what her opinion was, whether it be a certain movement of the eyes, etc, etc etc. If there was some way to communicate with her somebody would have figured it out by now. But as there is nobody actually claiming she is able to communicate her wishes beyond what could just as well be uncontrolled movements, then what the hell.
There is either absolutely nothing going on upstairs, or she is a genius slowly going insane in her hospital bed prison.
Either way, you're not doing her or anybody else any good keeping her around.
In the meantime, how many able bodied people were needed to look after her all this time?
giggly - history
Well, here is a little history on Terry. The cause of all this is that she had an eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, which, when taken to an extreme, causes severe electrolyte imbalances, which can cause brain damage. Which is what happened to Terry. Now, before you go off on a spiel about that it was her fault then, anorexia is not a choice, it is a disease. That said, i agree with sheldon, euthanasia would be much more humane than letting her starve. ON the other hand, people in this state who refuse or are refused nutrition and hydration do not often experience extreme hunger or thirst, as many of their body systems (including the one sensing thirst and hunger) have shut down long before. Still, the parents are obviously fighting for their own good, not for her. The husband has the right to make that decision and i think he's doing the right thing.
leo - Re: history
So in light of her anorexia, starving her was the most humane way to do it....
bah-dum-bum-CHING!
I'm going to hell.
giggly - re:leo re:history
it's ok, i'm a nurse and i'm going to hell too, cuz i laughed at your joke.. hehe
Steve - Anorexia
Anorexia's not a choice, its a disease? Sorry, I don't buy that.
Disease: a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning : SICKNESS, MALADY
Ok, I guess its a disease. Semantics, semantics, all of it.
Most anorexic people I've seen or heard about start off as big tubs of lard. Then one day they look in the mirror, something snaps and they stop eating.
Becoming anorexic is a choice. Likewise, stopping is a choice. Otherwise, there'd be no people recovering from anorexia, right? Some people just have more willpower than others.
This may be kinda heartless because this woman just died, but its the truth.
leo - Re: Anorexia
>> Otherwise, there'd be no people recovering from anorexia, right?
Eh? That doesn't make any sense.
Cancer is inarguably a disease and not a choice. And yet tons of people recover from it daily.
Anorexia is a choice in the same way that I have just chosen to get a cold. Hey, one day I just looked in the mirror and was like "wtf man, you're too healthy". And BAM! My nose is running and I have no energy.
The boundaries between mental conditions and physical ones are not clear, since the mind has great influence over the body.
giggly - re:leo:re:anorexia
Yes, whether some people believe it or not, the power of the mind can make you physically sick, and if your mind tells you you're fat, even if you're starving and 85lbs, then you will look fat in a mirror. Yes, at the beginning there may be a choice to diet, but the further in you get, even if they tube feed you to try to get you back, your mind will tell your body not to absorb it because your mind still thinks you're fat. Most people don't choose to die.
Parrell - anorexia and such...
Ok so maybe this eating disorder is on both sides of the fence here when we talk about mental and physical states, but I thought of something: Why have eating disorders become so goddamn common? You all know what I mean. How often did people (mainly girls I'd say) get their minds so cock-eyed about their weight say, in the 50s? Not a lot. Why? MEDIA. Have you seen all the magazines young girls buy? Have you watched tv lately? Sure, I guess all this emphasis on beauty might be a weird tangent of 'survival of the fittest' or 'hottest' but that's more to do with the need to hump, not the manic obsession with personal appearance. Question is, why are more and more [girls] becoming so obsessed with their appearance and going to such extremes? You know what I think? THEY ARE WEAK. Can't you see past the big-buisness side of all that garbage? Are you totally incapable of thinking on your own or do you always need the latest copy of 'Cosmo' or 'Seventeen' to keep yourself alive? Pathetic, really. Please, nobody defend those who have peanut butter for grey matter, because in the long run they aren't going to help this situation, they are just going to be on the news when they are really scrawny, then die. And that's it. Shiavo went mental because she was a sheep and gave into the corporate image of acceptable beauty? Harsh, but retardation was just the perfect side effect of her choices; made her true self come right out! So kids, don't give in to the images and standards you see in mainstream media. Take care of yourself and flip-off people who give their tainted opinions on your appearance, then marry the [girl or guy, but no homo-ness] nextdoor, and relax! Just remember this, if you cave, get an eating 'disease' and end up staring into oblivion for 16 years before dying on national tv, Sheldon will write about your pointless existance on his website! Ooh! Burned, skinny!
giggly - re:parrell
Ouch, harsh, but true. Unfortunately... these are the facts of life.
